Ex-husband in custody after shooting
By CHRIS McGATHEY/Staff writer
Tommy Gene Willcox, 37, of Rowlett, was arrested early Tuesday and is being held on aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charges and $50,000 bond after allegedly shooting his ex-wife in the neck with a rifle early Tuesday, Rowlett Police say.
According to Lt. David Nabors, Rowlett Police responded to a 911 call in the 2100 block of Garner Court where Tommy explained to police that he had shot his ex-wife, Carla Willcox. The Willcoxs were engaged in an argument that escalated into them both struggling to get a baseball bat from one another, when Tommy entered a second room of the home and retrieved a .30-caliber rifle and shot Carla one time in the neck, Nabors said.
Nabors said Carla was conscious and alert when paramedics arrived. She was transported to Baylor Hospital in Dallas for treatment. Tommy was treated at the scene for a broken hand, Nabors said.
Aggrevated assault with a deadly weapon is a first-degree felony and carries a sentence of five to 99 years and a fine of $10,000.
