Police reports

Twenty-year-old Jorge Lopez of Rowlett has been identified as one of the people who died in shootings on Monday during rush hour.

Lopez was found shot in his car at the Jupiter Road - Marquis Drive stoplight in Garland.

Police are investigating if Lopez was killed by a man who shot two drivers on LBJ Freeway during Monday's rush hour.

Police have a suspect, who is in critical condition at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. Police said former Utah state trooper Brian Smith shot himself when cornered by officers. Smith was wanted on robbery and theft warrants.

Police are investigating whether alcohol and prescription drugs may have been a reason for why Smith started shooting.

Dallas police said that Smith's bullets killed 42-year-old truck driver William Miller on Monday on the freeway.

On Wednesday morning, drivers going northwest on Interstate 635 came to a stop and had to wait before noon as Dallas police officers searched the empty freeway for signs of the crimes. Police shut down all of the westbound lanes and traffic quickly backed up toward Mesquite.
