Ehinger joins LISD race
By Chris Roark, croark@acnpapers.com
June Ehinger has become the latest resident to make a run for a seat on the Lewisville ISD Board of Trustees.
Ehinger filed Thursday for Place 1, which is occupied by Tom Ferguson. Ferguson has announced he is not seeking re-election, but Kathy Duke and Paige Shoven have filed to run in his place.
Election Day is May 12.
Ehinger, a resident of the unincorporated portion of Lewisville known as Castle Hills, has lived in Texas for just over a year. But she said her experience in education from across the country would make her a good board member, and she said she can bring fresh ideas to the district from the various stops in her career.
“That’s one of the reasons I’m doing this,” Ehinger said. “I want to make sure that we produce lifelong learners. We can’t direct students with one specific curriculum. Technology is changing daily, and I think my background in technology will help this district. We don’t need to be on the bleeding edge of technology, but we do need to be on the leading edge.”
Ehinger said, if elected, she would make careful decisions.
“I want to observe before making drastic decisions,” Ehinger said. “I don’t think there is anything in this district that really needs drastic attention. We have great academic programs and great athletic programs. Of course, there is a concern over the finances, but that’s the same for every school district across the country right now.”
Ehinger said another goal is to support the superintendent and the other trustees.
And after 30 years of working in the education field, Ehinger said she is ready to focus on the board of trustees.
“I realized that it’s my responsibility to volunteer in a capacity that is one of the most important you can be in,” Ehinger said. “And that’s to look at the future of education for our children.”
The last day to file for a place on the ballot is Monday. Early voting runs from April 30 to May 8.
