McKinney Christian Mustangs Trample Dallas Lutheran Lions 51-0

Published: Monday, October 1, 2012 8:42 AM CDT
The Mustangs used an explosive offense and a tenacious defense to blank the Lions.  McKinney’s total offense of 385 yards, not including a 96 yard kickoff return, did not punt, dwarfing Dallas’ 16 yards.  A constant drizzle affected play from the opening kickoff throughout the game with several fumbles.

A fumble on the opening kickoff by Lutheran was recovered by the Mustang’s Josh Belonga at the Lions 41 yard line.  McKInney Christian scored on Connor Doyle’s twenty-six yard run after only 31 seconds had elapsed on the game clock.  Following Lutheran’s punt on its ensuing possession, MCA had its own problems with a wet football as a bad snap led to a fumble which the Lions recovered, yet were unable to capitalize.  On its next possession, the Mustangs took the ball 84 yards to score, capped off with a 45 yard scoring ramble by Sky Walker. The extra point by Caleb Wysong ended first quarter scoring.

Connor Doyle started the second quarter scoring on a 13 yard scamper to finish off a 42 yard drive by the Mustangs.  Likewise, MCA’s Doyle scored on an 8 yard run to end a 44 yard drive the next time the Mustangs had the ball.  Following the punt to end Lutheran’s next possession, a frustrated Lions team was penalized twice on the same play, including an ejection, for personal fouls which set up MCA at Lutheran’s 12 yard line.  On the next snap, McKInney Christian quarterback Dallas Brock kept on the option to score.  Again Caleb Wysong’s PAT finished out scoring in the first half as MCA took a 42-0 halftime lead.  The Mustangs were able to score on six of seven first half possessions to take control of the game.

Sky Walker exploded on a 96 yard kickoff return for a touchdown as the Mustangs burst out of the gate with the opening kickoff to begin the second half.  MCA’s Wysong finished the night a perfect seven for seven on PAT’s.   This ended scoring for the Mustang’s offense, but the defense was no less spectacular featuring aggressive gang tackling throughout the game to stifle the Lion’s offense.  With the exception of a penalty to give the Lions a first down in the first half, MCA’s defense did not allow a first down until the fourth quarter.  Additionally, MCA’s defense held Lutheran’s offense to only 16 total yards for the game.  The Mustang defense also ended the scoring with a third quarter safety when the ball was snapped over the punter’s head, out of the back of the end zone with the wet weather again affecting play.

McKinney Christian improves its record to 1-2, while Dallas Lutheran falls to 0-3 for the year.  Next Friday, McKinney Christian hosts Fort Worth’s Temple Christian at McKinney North High School for a 7:30 pm game while Dallas Lutheran travels to Prince of Peace in Carrolton.
