A man formerly of Frisco was sentenced on a charge of aggravated sexual assault Tuesday.

Michael Dangelo Mason, 23, was sentenced to 62 years in prison for a Feb. 12, 2010, incident where prosecutors say he raped his 62-year-old neighbor after requesting entry into her house.

Mason told the woman he needed to use her phone after his car broke down, prosecutors said. After that, he "approached her from behind, grabbed her around the neck and held a knife to her throat," a statement from the Collin County District Attorney's Office said. The two then proceeded to the woman's bedroom, where prosecutors said Mason raped her at knifepoint.

After the incident, Plano police say Mason took the woman's purse and used her credit card for several days.

The unauthorized credit card charges led the Plano Police Department to arrest Mason on Feb. 16, 2010. Mason's cell phone was tracked by Detective Beth Chaney.

The Frisco Enterprise has requested comment from the Collin County District Attorney's Office. This article will be updated if and when a response is received.
