Nature center, library to host event

Harvest Hike HootnHowl, a free autumn-themed event for families, will take place from 3-6 p.m. Oct. 21 at Bob Jones Nature Center & Preserve.
The Bob Jones Nature Center, in partnership with the city of Southlake and Southlake Public Library, will host the event.
Sponsored by Cook Children's, Kohl's, Southlake Association for Gifted and Talented (SAGT), and Camp Summer Oaks, Harvest Hike HootnHowl will include music from Radio Disney, live animal programs, trail hikes, festival booths and more.
This event is free and is filled with exciting autumn activities. Children can visit with their favorite animals from Blackland Prairie Raptor Center, Westland Ranch Petting Zoo, and Matt Morris' turtles. Families will be able to explore the beautiful Bob Jones Nature Center & Preserve through self-guided hikes. The trail will include several activities also.
Radio Disney will be providing additional games and music. Attendees can also enjoy storytelling, outdoor demonstrations, and the first annual Coyote Howling Contest. Free delicious fall treats including caramel apples, popcorn, and cider will be served while supplies last. Additional food and drinks will also be available for purchase.
"We wanted to provide this event for families to get outside, enjoy the beautiful weather, explore nature, and participate in fun activities together," said Emily Galpin, executive director of the Bob Jones Nature Center Organization. "We encourage people to visit the center for Harvest Hike HootnHowl and discover this treasure of nature provided by the city of Southlake."
Free Parking for the Harvest Hike and shuttle service or walking paths will be available from the Equestrian Center at Bob Jones Park. Handicap parking is available on a first-come basis at the Bob Jones Nature Center & Preserve.
About the Bob Jones Nature Center
The Bob Jones Nature Center (BJNC) is a 501c3 non-profit organization working in association with the City of Southlake at the Bob Jones Nature Center & Preserve (BJNCP), a City of Southlake park facility. The organization is dedicated to the preservation of the Cross Timbers ecosystem and natural resources offering programs and classes for all ages. The BJNCP, located at 355 E. Bob Jones Road in Southlake, is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. (during daylight savings time) and is the gateway to miles of equestrian and hiking trails on the Walnut Grove National Recreation Trail.
