DISTRICT 11-5A VOLLEYBALL: Eagles topple Naaman Forest to move into tie for first

Since dropping the district opener against Naaman Forest, Rowlett has been itching for another chance.
The Eagles knew, however, that the rematch would lose its luster if they could not take care of business against the rest of 11-5A.
Rowlett did just that by winning the remainder of its matches during the first half of district play and its reward was a second chance with the Rangers with first place on the line.
After splitting the first two games, Rowlett dominated late to pull away for a 25-20, 23-25, 25-19, 25-10 victory on Tuesday.
The Eagles improve to 6-1 in 11-5A and pull even with previously-undefeated Naaman Forest atop the standings.
Sachse, which had swept North Garland last Friday, had a bye on Tuesday and remains in sole possession of third place at 4-2.
The Mustangs do, however, need to be attentive to what is going on behind them.
Lakeview earned a 25-19, 25-18, 25-19 victory over North Garland on Tuesday and that win, coupled with a key victory over Garland on Friday, lifts the Patriots to 4-3 in district play.
That gives them a one-game lead over the Owls, which knocked off South Garland on Tuesday, who are in fifth place at 3-4.
Although there is a long way to go, the Colonels and Raiders will be relegated to the role of spoilers down the stretch unless they enjoy a huge reversal of fortune.
The next week could go a long way in determining if the field will tighten for the stretch run, or the favorites will put some distance in between themselves and the field.
Rowlett will host Garland on Friday and then play at winless North Garland on Tuesday. Sachse can solidify its position in third when it plays at Lakeview on Friday before a match on Tuesday against South Garland.
The Owls will learn a lot about themselves, as in addition to the match against Rowlett on Friday they must also play on the road at Naaman Forest on Tuesday.
