Dallas Christian has reached October without facing a serious challenge on the gridiron.

The Chargers might have expected a tougher test last week with defending district champion Tyler Grace Community, but that was hardly the case.

Dallas Christian took control of a tie game in the first quarter by reeling off 42 unanswered points to cruise to a 49-7 victory on Friday at Charger Stadium.

The Chargers improve to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in TAPPS 2-II as they prepare for another undefeated team in Parish Episcopal, who also moved to 4-0 and 1-0 with a 48-14 win against TC-Cedar Hill.

Dallas Christian took the early lead on Friday on a short touchdown run by D'Andre Cannon, but Grace Community answered with a 54-yard touchdown pass from Blake White to Kade Clayton to tie the game at 7-7.

Little did Grace Community know, but that would be its final points of the night.

While the Charger defense would go on to limit Grace Community to 202 yards and intercept four passes, the offense was just getting warmed up.

Dallas Christian took the lead later in the first quarter on another touchdown run by Cannon that made it 14-7.

The Chargers then went to the air in the second quarter, as Alex Craig threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Hayden Baker and a 23-yarder to Dominique Weaver to extend the advantage to 28-7 at halftime.

The second half was more of the same, as Craig found Baker for a 16-yard scoring strike to make it 35-7.

Dallas Christian tacked on two more scores in the fourth, as Cannon had his third touchdown run of the game and Kalir Joseph added a 3-yard run to provide the final margin.

The Chargers now face Parish Episcopal, a team that has enjoyed a similar run of success to this point.

The teams have been equally dominant through four games. Dallas Christian has outscored its opponents 181-21, for a averaging winning margin of 40 points per game. Episcopal is right on that pace, outscoring their opposition 195-38, for a margin of 39.3 points per game.

The Chargers have been balanced on offense. Craig has completed nearly 70 percent of his passes for 617 yards and seven touchdowns, with Justis Nelson, Baker and Weaver being the primary targets.

Dallas Christian also boasts a solid 1-2 punch in the backfield, as homerun threat Cannon and Joseph have combined for more than 500 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Parish Episcopal does not have quite the same balance. They do have a pair of strong rushers in Tre Vance, who is averaging nearly 15 yards per carry, and Zach Shelley, who has 563 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Jeff Davis is averaging less than 100 yards per game throwing the ball, and has three interceptions to only two touchdown passes.

While it is still early in the district season, based on the dominating fashion these two teams have shown so far, the winner of Friday's clash could have the inside track to the district title.

VOLLEYBALL

The Dallas Christian volleyball team improved to 2-3 last week with a 3-1 victory over Tyler All-Saints. As the district season heads into the stretch run, the Chargers are currently in the middle of the pack, with Carrollton Prince of Peace and Parish Episcopal leading the way.
