Stallions unable to keep up with Rockwall

North Mesquite was in the wrong place at the wrong time on Friday as it had a front row seat to Rockwall's 12-5A breaking-out party as the Yellow Jackets rolled to a 49-24 victory at Wilkerson-Sanders Stadium.
The Stallions (2-4) fall to 1-1 in district play while Rockwall (2-5) climbs out of its winless hole to move to 1-2.
Both teams were able to score in the first half, but North Mesquite found itself trailing because it had to settle for field goals instead of touchdowns.
The Stallions drove right back down the field but the drive stalled and ended in a 22-yard field goal from Juan Mendez.
That script continued later in the quarter, as Chris Warren ripped off a 28-yard touchdown run for the Yellow Jackets and North Mesquite getting a 33-yard field goal from Mendez that made it 14-6.
Rockwall threatened to break it open after Warren bulled in from a yard out to make it a two-score game, but the Stallions had a quick response.
Ta'Varius Luke caught a 9-yard touchdown pass from Cody Williams and Thomas Oberg picked off a pass and returned it 47 yards for a score to close to within 21-20.
It was the second pick-six in as many weeks for Oberg.
Rockwall was able to push the advantage back to 28-20 on a short run by Xavier Castille and that momentum carried over into the second half, when Castille broke a 39-yard touchdown run and Warren added his third scoring run of the game to make it 42-20.
North Mesquite finally got back on the scoreboard on a 20-yard scoring strike from Williams to Kayveon Brown, but Warren capped his 261-yard night with a 43-yard touchdown run to push the advantage to 49-27.
