Swing! TopGolf plans to bring some fun to The Colony
Council says city's TopGolf will be even larger than Allen's

Bring them your bored, thirsty and hungry - TopGolf plans to bring big development to The Colony as early as next fall.
TopGolf mixes an old-fashioned golf game with technology and food. Each TopGolf ball has a small microchip inside that tells the golfer how far and how accurate his or her shot was - even up to 240 yards.
Keri Samford, director of economic development for The Colony, said don't worry if you can get a shot past the 10 yard marker - that's what makes the game so fun.
"It's a family-oriented business and you don't have to have a certain skill level," she said. "All skill levels can participate. When we went out to visit, we saw families out there and everyone was having a good time so we are real excited to have them here."
Samford said the business has already submitted a plan development before planning and zoning and the city council.
"It has been approved, and their location is on Memorial Drive just east of Blair Oaks Drive. It's about 14 or 15 acres," Samford said.. They want to break ground by then end of this year and have the facility complete by the third quarter of next year."
If golf isn't your game, then bring your appetite because Samford said TopGolf hires its chefs from Le Cordon Bleu, and the bartenders know how to mix up the latest cocktail or pour your favorite beer.
"It won't be a snack bar, it's actual real food with salads and full menu items," she said.
The proposed location will be taking up a formerly bankrupt spot that will also work as a afternoon temptation to shoppers at the future Nebraska Furniture Mart, Samford said.
"The good thing is with the Nebraska Furniture Mart and the destination site that is contemplated on the other side of the street, this will be just another amenity for that," she said. "Once we do get hotels on that site, whether they are here for a weekend or whatever, it's just one more added amenity we can offer."
But don't grab your wallet just yet - although TopGolf has an aggressive timeline, it won't be complete for another year.
