FOOTBALL BREAKDOWN: Districts 11-5A, 12-5A, 10-4A
11-5A FOOTBALL STANDINGS
Quick look: Garland took control of the race for the district championship on Friday with a 34-25 victory over South Garland.
The Owls, who limped into 11-5A play without a win, remains undefeated at 4-0 and wraps up a playoff berth. As the school with the largest enrollment in the district, Garland will be in Division I, but seeding is still yet to be determined.
The rest of the playoff field tightened considerably this past week.
Rowlett made a huge leap back into the fray as its 37-7 victory over Naaman Forest not only allowed them to snap a five-game losing streak, but also move back to within a game of third place.
The Rangers had been a surprise in making a charge into third place, but they now fall back into a tie for fourth with Sachse, which was idle.
Lakeview did what it had to by thumping winless North Garland to move to 2-3 and in fifth place.
There are some huge games left, starting with this week. The Mustangs play South Garland on Thursday at Williams Stadium, while the Rangers face Garland on Friday at Williams Stadium.
If the two district leaders win and Rowlett takes care of business against North Garland, there would be a four-way tie for third place heading into the final week of the season.
Under that scenario, there would essentially be two playoff games in the final week of the regular season, as Rowlett meets Lakeview and Sachse takes on Naaman Forest.
However, if the Mustangs or Rangers are able to win this week, it changes the dynamic of the final week.

12-5A FOOTBALL STANDINGS
Quick look: Mesquite and Horn once again had no problems this week and with two weeks left in the regular season, they have already punched their tickets to the playoffs.
The Skeeters have wrapped up a share of the 12-5A championship and even if they slip up and finish in a tie with the Jaguars, they will still win the seeding tiebreaker due to their head-to-head victory.
That means that Mesquite, the district's largest school, will be the top seed in the Class 5A Division I bracket.
While Horn knows it will be playing in week 11, it does not know in which division, as there is still plenty to be decided behind them.
Longview dealt North Mesquite's playoff hopes a huge blow, while at the same time boosting its own standing with a 52-3 victory on Friday. The Lobos move into a tie for third place at 2-2 with Rockwall, which was idle this week.
Those two teams hold a one-game lead over the Stallions and Rockwall-Heath, who are 1-3, and a two-game cushion over Tyler Lee, which would need to win its final two games and get a lot of help to have a slim chance.
Longview is in good position with a game on Friday against the winless Red Raiders before a season finale against the Yellow Jackets that could determine a playoff spot.
Rockwall faces a tall task this week when it hosts Mesquite, which has a bye on the final week and is looking to close out a perfect regular season.
North Mesquite and Rockwall-Heath will meet on Friday with the loser of that game all but eliminated. The Stallions will also face a tough challenge in two weeks against Horn.
While the Hawks have taken some lumps the past few weeks, they can still put themselves in good position to make the playoffs with victories over North Mesquite and Tyler Lee in the finale.

10-4A FOOTBALL STANDINGS
Quick look: Highland Park survived a scare from Carrollton Creekview on Friday but held on for a 28-23 victory to clinch a playoff spot.
Poteet and West Mesquite both enjoyed easy wins as they moved closer to advancing to the postseason. Each will punch their ticket this week with either a victory or a loss by Carrollton Newman Smith.
The Pirates and Wranglers are on a collision course for an end-of-the-season showdown, but they have business to take care of first, as Poteet hosts North Forney and West Mesquite plays at a tough Forney team.
The Jackrabbits have surged of late and are now in sole possession of fourth place with a 3-2 record. If Forney can continue that hot play and knock off the Wranglers, they will force a tie for third place.
The only other team in contention for the fourth spot is Carrollton Newman Smith. If the Jackrabbits fall to West Mesquite and the Trojans are unable to upset Highland Park, that would set the stage for the regular season finale in which the winner would earn the fourth and final playoff berth.
Under that scenario, Carrollton Creekview could tie Forney and Newman Smith at 3-4 with wins over Terrell and North Forney. However, the Trojans, who claimed a double-overtime thriller against their crosstown rivals earlier this season, would have defeated both the Mustangs and Jackrabbits and would thereby win the tiebreaker.
