AHS FFA receives national ranking

The national FFA organization recently selected the Allen FFA chapter from a pool of 660 candidates nationwide as a three-star winner in the National FFA Chapter Award Program.

The award program is sponsored by John Deere as a special project of the National FFA Foundation. The National FFA chapter award program recognizes FFA chapters for developing and conducting a detailed program of activities. Every year, FFA chapters are recognized as having earned a one-, two- or three-star rating on their application. The three-star rating is the highest level of accomplishment an FFA chapter may achieve. On Oct. 22, the Allen FFA was recognized at the Allen ISD board meeting.

Author to read, sign new book

Kay Cole, author of the new book "Lonesome Knob," and 12-year-old illustrator McKenna Vaughn, will be signing copies of the book from 2-4 p.m. Nov. 11 at A Real Bookstore, 113 Prairie Road.

Cole will read passages from the book, which is inspired by her memories of growing up on the dusty plains of West Texas.
