Frisco ISD names lone superintendent finalist

Frisco ISD announced longtime superintendent Rick Reedy’s replacement Monday morning when the district’s board of trustees named Jeremy Lyon the lone finalist for the superintendent position in a special meeting.
The board unanimously voted to name Lyon to the position following a month-long search for Reedy’s successor. Lyon was one of five candidates who interviewed for the position last week; each candidate was interviewed by the trustees for two hours in those meetings.

Though he was not at the board’s special meeting announcing his selection, Lyon did provide a statement regarding his impending acceptance of the position.
“I am honored to be selected to lead Frisco ISD,” Lyon’s statement says. “The school district and community share a vision of excellence for education that is rare. I am particularly impressed with their commitment, in the middle of fast-growth, to creating ideal learning environments for children. The results they have achieved are remarkable.”
Lyon added in his statement that he looks forward to working with the district’s leadership team and integrating himself in the community.
State law requires a 21-day waiting period before a contract can be offered to a superintendent candidate after that person is publicly named. A meeting is scheduled for Dec. 12 to formally offer Lyon the position, and he will assume superintendent responsibilities on Jan. 7, the district’s first day back from winter break.
Renée Ehmke, president of the board of trustees, said Lyon’s interview showed the commitment he was willing to make to the district.
“This is somebody who really wanted to be in FISD,” she said. “He was very excited about this opportunity. He’s got experience with fast-growth districts, and the board feels like he’ll be an excellent fit for what we need.”
When asked what the board of trustees liked about Lyon during the interview process, Ehmke responded “all of it.”
“He’s just a really great guy,” she said. “One of the things he said that I thought was important was, ‘I want to drive the train, not derail it.’ He wants to keep us going in the direction we’re headed and take us even further. And that’s everything you could want for your new superintendent – we’re really excited and think he’s going to do a great job.”
Though Reedy will no longer be superintendent when the district returns from winter break, he plans on staying on in an advisory capacity to help the district’s transition, he’s previously stated.
Reedy announced his retirement on Sept. 12, ending a 37-year tenure at Frisco ISD, the last 16 of which have been served as superintendent. During his tenure, Reedy saw the district grow from less than 4,000 students to nearly 43,000.
“We’re very fortunate that Dr. Reedy agreed to say as long as he has so we didn’t have to name an interim superintendent,” Ehmke said. “The process would have been much more difficult if he hadn’t done that.”
Ehmke added that Reedy and Lyon will meet to discuss the transition and other matters Lyon may need advisement about.
“I know Dr. Lyon is really looking forward to meeting with Dr. Reedy and the district’s cabinet to talk about transition and anything else he needs,” she said. “It’s going to be a collaborative process.”

" Thanks Frisco for taking Mr. Lyons off our hands. He has been a big disappointment in Hayes. His relationships with teachers and staff is poor and respect among parents is low. I hope he does drive the train there because he derailed it here. "
