Wakeland, Liberty battle for fourth

With 12 games down, Wakeland and Liberty have tallied 6-6 marks for a two-way tie as District 9-4A’s final playoff team.

The Lady Wolverines and Lady Redhawks will battle for the final postseason berth with just two games remaining in the regular season.

Wakeland’s road to the playoffs won’t be easy, with first-place Centennial next up for the Lady Wolverines and second-place Frisco concluding their season.

Meanwhile, Liberty will take on Frisco tonight before closing out its season with a Tuesday night road match against The Colony (3-9).

Heritage could also change positions, currently sitting in third place with a 7-5 mark.

Urevbu carries Eagles to victory

Legacy Christian Academy held Flower Mound Coram Deo Academy to just 196 yards of total offense, while forcing five turnovers during Friday night’s 64-13 win.

The Eagles could have given up much more, with senior running back Ovie Urevbu scoring five touchdowns after rushing for 266 yards on 18 carries.

Urevbu began the game’s scoring with a 27-yard touchdown run in the first quarter that sparked a 50-point first half for LCA.

The successful ground attack also allowed quarterback Adam Beck to have an efficient game. Beck’s only two completions went for touchdowns, with receiver Zach Snider catching a 26-yard score in the first and a 32-yard touchdown in the second.

Beck also added a 10-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to tally 49 yards on the ground.

The Eagles averaged 13 yards per carry in the game and racked up 390 yards rushing.

The district-opening victory improved LCA’s season mark to 6-1 with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff tonight against Gainesville State School next in line.

The Eagles will close out their regular season slate with a pair of games against McKinney Christian and Colleyville Covenant Christian.
