Jaguars finish regular season on a high note with win over North Mesquite
By DEVIN HASSON, dhasson@starlocalnews.com
Horn knew prior to kickoff that its playoff future was set.
But the Jaguars still wanted to treat Friday's crosstown rivalry game with North Mesquite like it was a must-win.
Horn did just that, taking a 28-7 lead and coasting to a 42-21 victory at E.H. Hanby Stadium.
North Mesquite finishes the regular season with a 3-7 overall record and a 1-5 mark in district play.
The teams traded punches early on, as Destri White threw a 18-yard touchdown pass to Brian O'Bannon before the Stallions countered with a 62-yard run by Corey Hunt to tie the game at 7-.
But Horn took control form that point.
White threw touchdown passes to Jarrison Stewart and O'Bannon and Jay'lyn Lynch added a short scoring run to give them a 28-7 lead.
North Mesquite got a 14-yard touchdown pass from Cody Williams to Pat Mobley to close to within two scores at halftime, but Treyvon Marsh plunged in from a yard out to make it 35-14 going to the fourth quarter.
That was as close as it would get. Lynch added his second touchdown run of the game for Horn, while Andrew Jones had an interception return for a score to provide the final margin.
