Published: Friday, November 30, 2012 4:00 PM CST
Horn had no problem with Wylie while Poteet held off North Mesquite as both picked up victories in non-district play on Tuesday.
The Jaguars improved to 7-2 with a stifling defensive effort that did not allow double figures in any quarter in a 47-18 victory over Wylie.
Horn jumped out strong with a 21-7 run and then held the Pirates to only two points in the second quarter to take a 35-9 lead. The second half was more of the same. Although the Jaguars slowed down on their scoring, they allowed only nine points in the third and fourth quarters combined.
Kristina Smith led the way for Horn with 15 points while Victoria Youman had 14.
The Jaguars are scheduled to compete in the Knights of Columbus Classic on Thursday through Saturday.
Poteet (3-6) took on crosstown rival North Mesquite (2-5) and came away with a 52-47 victory.
The Pirates got a huge game from Shyari Cheathem, who had a game-high 27 points. Rachael Malone led the Stallions with 17.
Poteet will take part in the Ennis Tournament starting on Thursday before hosting Kaufman on Tuesday.
North Mesquite will participate in the Royse City Tournament on Thursday through Saturday and then play at Grand Prairie on Tuesday.
Mesquite made a charge but came up short in the fourth quarter in a 53-40 loss to Allen on Tuesday.
The Skeeters fell behind 13-6 after one quarter but battled back to get to within four heading to the fourth quarter. However, the Eagles finished the game on an 18-9 run to pull away.
Mesquite (6-4) will compete in the McKinney ISD Tournament this weekend and then host The Colony on Tuesday.
11-5A: Sachse, Rowlett fall
Rowlett and Sachse each got off to slow starts and never recovered on Tuesday as both suffered non-district losses.
The Eagles (3-5) fell behind 35-15 at halftime and that was too much to overcome in a 63-48 loss to Plano West.
Rowlett did make a late charge with a 19-8 run in the second half, but it was not enough. Taylee Alexander scored 13 points and Taylor Dupuy added nine to lead the Eagles.
Rowlett will host Rockwall on Tuesday.
The Mustangs (4-5) faced a similar situation, falling behind 40-20 by halftime on their way to a 64-48 loss to Lincoln. Sachse made a charge in the third quarter with an 18-7 spurt to get back to within single digits, but the Tigers regained control in the fourth.
Monica Dorsey and Courtney Blankenship led the way for the Mustangs with 18 and 12 points, respectively.
Sachse will join Rowlett as part of the field at the Garland ISD Tournament on Thursday through Saturday and then host Plano on Tuesday.
