From staff reports
New York City Ballet principal dancers Wendy Whelan and Tyler Angle will guest star in Chamberlain Performing Arts' 2012 production of "The Nutcracker" over Thanksgiving weekend.
This holiday classical ballet, which will also feature a cast of Chamberlain company dancers, will take place in the Hill Performance Hall of the Eisemann Center in Richardson Nov. 23 to 25.
A light-hearted Christmas tale set to the music of Tchaikovsky, this production has become a holiday tradition for many North Texas families. Whelan, principal dancer with the New York City Ballet and Dance Magazine Lifetime Achievement Award honoree, and Angle, New York City Ballet principal dancer, will perform the roles of the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier. Together, they will perform the Grand Pas de Deux as choreographed by George Balanchine.
The first performance will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23. The second performance will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24. The third performance will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 25.
Tickets are priced at $10, $25, $35, $45, $60 and $100 and can be purchased by calling the Eisemann Center ticket office at 972-744-4650 or visiting www.eisemanncenter.com.
Chamberlain is also partnering with WFAA Channel 8's Santa's Helpers Toy Drive again this year. Each patron is encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped gift or toy to each Nutcracker performance they attend. This allows many underserved children in North Texas to have a happy holiday season.
In other outreach efforts, Chamberlain will continue its tradition of hosting a free Community Connections performance of "The Nutcracker" on the afternoon of Friday, Nov. 23. Chamberlain anticipates as many as 1,200 underserved or underprivileged members of the community will attend the ballet. Since Chamberlain first offered this Community Connections performance in 1991, as many as 27,000 guests have enjoyed this performance of "The Nutcracker."
With a 27-year history, Plano-based Chamberlain Performing Arts is the principal pre-professional ballet company of North Texas. Chamberlain Performing Arts is located at 3003 W. 15th St. For information, call 972-985-1374 or call www.chamberlainperformingarts.org.
