Pirate boys fall in overtime
Victories have been hard to come by this year for Poteet and Tuesday was a perfect illustration.
The Pirates watched North Garland stage a furious comeback to force overtime and then go on to a 70-65 victory.
Poteet (2-9) started red-hot with a 16-5 run and pushed the lead to 30-16 at halftime.
North Garland trimmed its deficit to single digits in the third quarter and then rallied to tie the game at 60-60 at the end of regulation.
The Raiders continued that momentum in the extra period, doubling up the Pirates, 10-5, to secure the win.
Raffaele Gaines, who just joined the team after completing football season, had 26 points for Poteet, while Khalil Arnold was also in double figures with 11.
The Pirates will host North Mesquite in a non-district game on Tuesday.
