A pair of local athletes helped lead their teams to big bowl victories, while another came up just short last week.
Rowlett graduate and University of Texas senior Marquise Goodwin closed out his football career on a high note in the Longhorns' 31-27 victory over Oregon State on Saturday in the Valero Alamo Bowl.
Goodwin had a 64-yard touchdown run on a reverse in the first half. He also caught four passes for 68 yards, including the game-winning 36-yard touchdown reception from David Ash with 2:24 left in the game.
West Mesquite graduate Trevone Boykin and his TCU teammates fell just short in a 17-16 loss to Michigan State in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl on Saturday.
Boykin, a redshirt freshman, completed 13-of-29 passes for 204 yards and had 13 rushes for 55 yards. He led the Horned Frogs to a field goal that put them ahead 16-14 with 2:42 left, but the Spartans were able to counter with the game-winning kick with 1:04 left to play.
