Sidekicks win again
The Dallas Sidekicks were dealt their stiffest challenge of the 2012-13 season Thursday night, but still prevailed in a 5-2 victory over the Rio Grande Valley Flash.
That final score may prove a tad deceiving, as the Sidekicks held just a 3-2 advantage over RGV midway through the fourth quarter. Nick Stavrou provided some breathing room for Dallas, scoring a power-play goal set up by Paolo Da Silva 7:16 into the frame for the 4-2 advantage.
Jamie Lovegrove distanced the Sidekicks from the Flash for good with a goal inside the final two minutes despite RGV pulling its keeper to add a sixth attacker.
Lovegrove scored two goals in the win and assisted Ricardinho in notching the first goal of the contest four minutes into the first quarter. Sean Bellomy also provided a goal and Sagu turned away 16-of-18 shots on net, as Dallas remained unbeaten at 7-0 on the season -- the club's best start since 1994.
The Sidekicks hit the road for a 7 p.m. tilt tonight against the Chicago Mustangs before returning home to host Chicago at 7 p.m. Saturday from the Allen Event Center.
