A man and at least one dog perished in a house fire in Carrollton Wednesday night.

Herb Cavanaugh, fire inspector for the Carrollton Fire Department, said firefighters were called to 2311 Westbrook Drive about 7 p.m.

On arrival firefighters found the brick home fully involved.

Cavanaugh said firefighters found the body of a man believed to be in his 60s in the house. Although neighbors said the man had three dogs, firefighters found the body of only one dog, Cavanaugh said.

He said police have advised that the name of the deceased not be released until the body has been positively identified by the medical examiner’s office.

“We are pretty sure we know who he is, but we want to be certain,” Cavanaugh said.

He said the cause of the fire has not been determined.

A witness who lives a short distance north of the house said she heard a boom and went outside and saw the house totally engulfed in flames.

Once firefighters arrived at the scene, a second alarm was immediately called, and more firefighters from Carrollton and Addison arrived shortly.
