For the first time this fall, Marcus' wrestling team is beginning to resemble a full unit.
And the results are showing.
After spending a majority of its time this season with injured wrestlers and others attempting to find their form following time in other sports, the Marauders rattled off a perfect showing last weekend at the Birdville 6-Way dual.
Marcus won all five of its matches, picking up victories over Haltom, McKinney Boyd, Birdville, Springtown and Arlington Heights.
Brandon Litten, competing at 182 pounds, was named Most Outstanding Wrestler following an undefeated run. Dylan Ross (160), Nick Knill (145), Adam Weiss (138) and Trevor Foust (126) also went unbeaten on the weekend.
On Wednesday, the team continued by picking up wins in duals against Grapevine (48-27) and Southlake Carroll (42-32).
"We wanted to set it up because Southlake had a 195-pounder who was fourth at state last year and Grapevine had a guy who was sixth at 160 at state," said Mike Prado, Marcus head coach. "Wouldn't you know that they would all end up in the same weight class as Brandon last night, so that led to some very exciting matches."
Litten went the distance in both fights, defeating Carroll's Cody Lindberg (11-9) and Grapevine's Blake Andrews (9-6).
Marcus continued its busy stretch this weekend at the Lone Star Duals at St. Marks in Dallas, where the Marauders are guaranteed at least five matches.
"It's going to be a tough weekend again," Prado said. "We just need to continue getting healthy right now and making improvements."
Lewisville's girls, meanwhile, took seventh out of 26 teams at the Frisco Tournament.
"It was pretty darn awesome," said Joe Daniel, Lewisville girls head coach. "There were a lot of placers and champs from state last year and a ton of good teams. It was a stacked field."
Given the quality of the field, Daniel was impressed with Lewisville's performance, which featured a second-place finish from Tommi Goodwin (110), third from Brittany Marshall (165) and fourth from Bea Sanchez (119).
"Tommi did a great job and had a good match in the finals against the defending state champion," Daniel said. "Even the coaches of the girls from Saginaw were very impressed."
Marshall, meanwhile, rebounded from a loss in the semifinals - her first defeat of the season - to finish third.
"It had been a while since her last loss," Daniel said. "She had to fight back and through some adversity, so I was happy for her."
Lewisville's girls continued this weekend in a tournament at R.L. Turner (results not available as of press time).
"We're getting better all of the time," Daniel said. "We have a few injuries, overall, but not a whole lot on the varsity."
