WEB EXCLUSIVE: Better for it: Lions soccer tackles obstacles

The season may have just started, but the McKinney Lions soccer team is battling through various adversities already. The team is stronger for it though, as they refuse to let their obstacles set them back in any way.

"I think we're right on schedule," said Alan Pocock, Lions head coach. "We're dealing with more injuries right now than we have in previous seasons. It's usually after the second tournament when the legs start to feel it. It was a pretty rugged opening-weekend tournament for us."

The Lions are 3-1-1 on the season as they enter the Little Elm Invitational, which runs from Thursday through Saturday.

Plano West's Parker Murry, Lance Cottrell commit

Published: Saturday, January 12, 2013 12:49 AM CST
The residual effects of the best season in Plano West football history continue.

This time by way of verbal commitments.

The latest to join the group were senior offensive lineman senior Parker Murry (Sam Houston State) and junior linebacker Lance Cottrell (SMU).

Murry, a 6-foot-2, 280-pound second team all-district selection, can make his choice official Feb. 6 during National Signing Day. The wait will be a little longer for the 6-foot-2, 205-pound Cottrell as he is a junior. Cottrell, younger brother of Texas freshman defensive end Bryce Cottrell, will see a friendly face once he gets to SMU though as senior teammate Mason Gentry committed to the Mustangs a couple weeks ago.

SMU was the first school to offer Cottrell.
