Football: Lewisville can't maintain halftime lead against Ennis

Published: Saturday, September 8, 2012 1:31 AM CDT
Lewisville's football team dropped to 0-2 Friday but gave a spirited effort coming up short on the road against Ennis, 30-26.

The Farmers led at halftime, 20-16, but were outscored in the third quarter, 14-0, and never regained the lead.

Matt McDougal was efficient through the air for Lewisville, completing 8-of-11 passes for 79 yards and two touchdowns. The first was an 18-yard connection to Jocqui Davis to put the Farmers in front in the first quarter, 14-8. The latter went Quay Bradford's way and pulled Lewisville within four at 30-26 with 6:23 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Running back Deandre Brown also provided a major spark for Lewisville with a 66-yard touchdown dash in the second quarter. Brown finished the contest with 230 yards on 30 carries with two touchdowns.

Defensively, Lewisville had a challenge slowing Ennis' rushing attack as the Lions totaled 257 yards on 51 carries.

The Farmers continue at 7:30 p.m. Friday when they host Irving.

The Tigers came up short in a shootout Aug. 31 in their opener against W.T. White, 46-42, when White running back Cameron Goodlett scored the game-winning touchdown from 1-yard out with 21 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

Overall, the Irving offense gained 439 yards. Quarterback Cody Luttrell completed 12-of-19 passes for 230 yards and a touchdown. Luttrell's top targets were Kishion Mitchell (65 yards and a touchdown) and Justin Moore (five receptions for 72 yards).

Irving also displayed an effective run game, posting 209 yards on 38 attempts. Jacobi Perry led the way with 20 carries for 119 yards, while Moore and Morris Shell III gained 67 and 42 yards, respectively.

Defensively, however, the Tigers struggled to slow the Longhorns.

White gained 260 yards through the air and 237 yards rushing, including an average of 7.4 yards per carry and five touchdowns.
