Suspect arrested at IHOP after 4-hour standoff

By Dan Eakin, deakin@starlocalnews.com
A 33-year-old man was arrested at the IHOP restaurant on I-35E near Vista Ridge Mall in Lewisville about 5 a.m. Tuesday after refusing for more than four hours to turn himself over to police.
Capt. Kevin Deaver of the Lewisville Police Department said police received a call from the restaurant shortly before 1 a.m. that a waitress had heard a man discussing criminal activity with two women in a booth at the restaurant.
When police arrived, the man went into the men's restroom and barricaded himself. He told police he had a weapon and for them not to try to come in. The suspect, who was later identified as David Lee Horton of Hurst, then removed some of the ceiling and went into the attic.
Deaver said both Horton and the two women were taken to the police station. He said Horton was wanted on outstanding warrants for robbery and kidnapping, and that he is also a suspect in recent robberies in Lewisville, Plano and possibly even one that occurred Monday night in Trophy Club.
Police also determined that an F250 Ford pickup which Horton had driven to the restaurant had been stolen.
Deaver said the two women were also expected to be charged with at least one crime each for "an offense that had occurred in another jurisdiction."
