Levenick to seek another term

Published: Tuesday, January 29, 2013 9:05 PM CST
Jean Levenick has announced that she will seek another term for Place 5 on the Flower Mound Town Council.

Levenick was appointed by the council in June to take over the seat vacated by Tom Hayden when he ran for mayor.

Levenick said she is hoping for another term so she can help continue the push for economic development the council has made in the last several months.

"We have made great strides in moving Flower Mound ahead with regard to responsible economic growth to ease the tax burden on our residents," Levenick said. "I will continue to seek out high-quality development in the appropriate areas."

Since re-joining the council in June, Levenick was part of a vote that approved $14.3 million in store improvements and a fuel station at Kroger on FM 1171, as well as Lakeside DFW, the $1 billion mixed-use project set to be located off FM 2499 and Lakeside Parkway.

Levenick said, if elected, she also hopes to maintain Flower Mound's qualities that make it a place people enjoy living in.

"Flower Mound has a strong tradition of community pride that has made it one of the most desirable places to live, work and raise a family," Levenick said. "It is essential we maintain a community that is safe, easy to get around in and has the services our residents need. If re-elected, I will continue to bring an independent, common-sense voice to the council, focusing on the issues that are important to the residents of Flower Mound. It would be a privilege to again serve in this capacity."

Levenick previously served on the council from 2008 to 2010, including one year as mayor pro tem. Before that, she was on the planning and zoning commission from 2006 to 2008.

She has served the community for 17 years in various roles, such as an advocate of CASA of Denton County and a board member for Pennies for Paige. She has participated in Leadership Flower Mound, the Flower Mound Fire Department's Rehab Team, the Flower Mound Citizen's Police Academy and the Flower Mound Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).
