The Lady Dragons went 8-0 in the event, including sweeping rival and defending Class 5A State Champ Coppell in the finals (25-22, 25-21).
Carroll’s other victories came over Midloathian (25-11, 25-23), Ursuline (25-9, 25-14), Westlake (25-14, 25-13), Magnolia (25-8, 25-16), Plano Senior (25-18, 25-19), Amarillo (25-18, 25-14) and Colleyville Heritage (25-11, 25-20).
Carroll’s Katie Dunlap was named MVP of the tournament, while Cat McCoy claimed Defensive MVP honors.
The Lady Dragons continue Friday and Saturday at the Texas Open in Allen. Last season, Carroll reached the semifinals before suffering its only loss of the regular season against Lovejoy. The Lady Leopards went on to lose in the finals against Coppell.
Carroll is grouped in Pool 3 with Hebron, Lakeridge and Ursuline.
Kluber starts for Indians
For the second consecutive season, Coppell product and starting pitcher Corey Kluber has gotten the call to pitch in the majors for the Cleveland Indians.
Kluber, who was selected in the 2007 MLB draft by the San Diego Padres, has started four games for the Indians.
Thus far, Kluber is 0-2 with a 6.27 ERA. Last season, Kluber had an 8.31 ERA in 4.1 innings pitched.
