Rowlett and Lakeview were head and shoulders above the rest of the 11-5A field this season, so it was fitting on Tuesday that they ended up as co-district champions.

The Eagles took care of business against Garland, while the Patriots dispatched Sachse as both teams finished with 11-1 records.

The teams have the option of flipping a coin or having a play-in game to determine the top seed in the playoffs.

Rowlett improved to 25-3 overall in a 79-50 thumping of the Owls, who had a chance to stay in the playoff race with a victory.

The Eagles scored 45 points in the first half and then used a 19-8 run in the third quarter to open a commanding 64-40 lead.

Jeffrey Carroll had a huge game with 32 points, while fellow seniors Nathan Hawkins and Austin Luke added 16 and 15 points, respectively.

V.J. Gates had 11 points for Garland, which finishes just out of the postseason picture.

Lakeview used a huge second quarter as the catalyst to its 62-50 win over Sachse.

The Patriots trailed after one quarter, but went on a 19-5 run to turn that deficit into a 28-16 halftime lead.

The Mustangs exceeded that point total in the third quarter, scoring 25 points, but Lakeview was able to keep pace and hold on until the end.

Marcus Hubbard scored 12 points and Michael Douglas added seven for Sachse. The Patriots got 22 points from Elbert Robinson and 15 from Termir Sutton-Durham.

Whoever emerges with the top seed will face Tyler Lee, the fourth-place team from 12-5A, in the bi-district playoffs early next week.

Sachse, who is on its way to the playoffs for the first time in school history, will be the third seed and will face either Horn or Longview in the opening round. The Jaguars and Lobos tied for second in 12-5A and seeding will be determined by coin flip or play-in game.

South Garland completed its late-season surge with a victory over North Garland on Tuesday to finish in a tie for fourth place with Naaman Forest.

Those teams will have a play-in game later this week with the winner to take on 12-5A champion Mesquite.

FRIDAY: Mustangs clinch playoff berth for first time in school history

After years of close calls and near misses, Sachse finally arrived on the playoff scene.

The Mustangs took care of business against winless North Garland on Friday with a 65-43 victory to officially punch their ticket to the postseason.

The Mustangs have had a tendency to trip up in similar games in recent years but they were never threatened by the Raiders.

Sachse grabbed an eight-point lead early on and then scored 23 points in the second quarter to open a 38-23 halftime lead.

For good measure, the Mustangs doubled up North Garland, 16-8, in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.

Jake Gross and Michael Olivares each scored 14 points to lead Sachse, while Sebastian Bermea led all scorers with 18 for the Raiders.
