Stonebriar Centre invites kids to wear a hat and celebrate Read Across America Saturday, Feb. 23

Read Across America and Stonebriar Centre celebrate Dr. Seuss at Barnes & Noble on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m. The event is planned in participation with Read Across America Day, the National Education Association’s (NEA) nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on March 2, which is Dr. Seuss’s birthday.
In celebration of the 75th anniversary of The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins, a Dr. Seuss favorite and the only one of his books written in prose, little guests are invited to wear a crazy hat and fill the party with a zany Seussian spirit.
Along with guests in their craziest hats, all sorts of fun is planned, such as:
BIRTHDAY CAKE. While it lasts, birthday cake will be served to commemorate the occasion of Dr. Seuss’s 109th birthday.
STORY TIME. Back again for the Dr. Seuss party at Stonebriar Centre, a fantastically dressed special guest and a creature who looks a lot like The Cat in The Hat will gather the children and read The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins and The Cat in the Hat.
PHOTO OPS. Both the special Seussian guest and The Cat in the Hat character [remember how fun they were last year?] will be available to pose for photos and visit with the guests.
FREE CAROUSEL RIDES. Children who attend the Dr. Seuss celebration will be treated to one free ride on the Carousel.
DRAWING FOR A NOOK HD Tablet. Adults with children who are participating in the Dr. Seuss event can register to win a NOOK HD Tablet with HD, Barnes & Noble’s lightest and highest resolution seven-inch tablet. Must be present to win.
In honor of the Dr. Seuss celebration, Barnes & Noble will offer:
CAT IN THE HAT FRAPPUCCINOS IN THE CAFE. The drinks, priced from $2 to $4, will be available for purchase only on Saturday, Feb. 23, while supplies last.
A SELECTION OF DR. SEUSS BOOKS. Guests will find Dr. Seuss books, including The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins, available for purchase.
In addition to the party on Feb. 23, Pottery Barn Kids at Stonebriar Centre invites kids to celebrate Read Across America Day on Saturday, March 2, at 10 a.m. The special story time will feature Dr. Seuss™ classics and crafting activities. Plus, each child will take home a special Certificate of Participation. There is no cost to attend. Pottery Barn Kids is on the upper level near the main entrance of Stonebriar Centre.
The Dr. Seuss Birthday celebration will be held at Barnes & Noble at Stonebriar Centre. The party is compliments of Barnes & Noble and the shopping center. There is no charge to attend and reservations are not required. Adults must stay with children during the party.
