Metrocrest Social Services names Tracy Eubanks CEO

Published: Tuesday, February 19, 2013 3:27 PM CST
Bunny Summerlin, who has been with Metrocrest Social Services since 1996 and executive director since 2001, will retire at the end of April.

She will be replaced by Tracy Eubanks, a business leader who has been serving as president of the Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce.

Eubanks has been credited with leading a revitalization of the Metrocrest chamber’s leadership among businesses in the Addison, Carrollton and Farmers Branch areas. At the end of April, he will take the helm at the growing non-profit, whose mission is to provide emergency assistance and comprehensive programs to move families toward self-sufficiency.

Summerlin said, “Tracy’s skills as a team builder and a community leader make him a great match for Metrocrest Social Services. As an experienced advocate for the agency, he’s equipped to successfully handle both challenges and opportunities. We’re excited!”

Cindy Colangelo, Metrocrest Social services board chair, said, “We are pleased to have someone as well respected as Tracy to assume the role of CEO once Bunny Summerlin retires. For more than a year, our board has worked to ensure a smooth succession to the next leadership phase of the agency. Tracy has proven to be a great leader within our community and he will help guide our organization as we grow to meet the needs of the people we serve.”

Eubanks has been involved with Metrocrest Social Services for years, having served on the board since 2007, and served as the non-profit’s chairman from October 2010 to October 2011. Metrocrest Social Services provides assistance for individuals in Carrollton, Farmers Branch, Addison, Coppell and those in zip code 75287 in Denton County. The agency assists families in solving their immediate crisis and then helps them to make plans for the future with services including rent and utility assistance, food pantry, employment services and seasonal programs. More than simply support, Metrocrest Social Services is a community resource and is among the top six percent of non-profits in the DFW area, in regards to size.

In 2012, almost 11,000 individuals received services that helped them through a tough situation in their lives.

As president of the Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce, Eubanks used his business acumen to lead a team that has inspired a new energy among businesses in the chamber.  During Eubanks’s term, new membership has increased 55 percent, revenue increased 49.9 percent and the chamber gained 117 percent more profitability. New programs and revitalized traditions have inspired a new energy among the chamber, which is active with business lunch and learn seminars, networking events, award galas and educational opportunities.

“As much as we hate to lose Tracy, we couldn’t be more excited about his new opportunity!” said Jamie Robertson, president of PlainsCapital Bank Carrollton and 2013 chairman of the Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce. “Tracy has given the Chamber a new life with a solid foundation to support the businesses in the Metrocrest area.  I know that he will bring that same enthusiasm and dedication to his new position.”

At the annual Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce Award Banquet last Friday night, Robertson said, “Tracy has assisted us in getting our chamber back on track and has given us a solid base that we can continue growth.”

Eubanks has served as president of the Metrocrest Chamber since 2011.  Previously, led Mapsco, Inc., for 17 years, successfully navigating the beloved Dallas mapping company through an acquisition by Universal Map Group of Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, in 2010.

He was also the owner and operator of Main Street Booksellers in Lewisville, a community-minded bookstore focused on education and support of local schools. He also had worked as a buyer and regional manager for Barnes & Noble and B. Dalton Booksellers.

Eubanks is a 2007 graduate of Leadership Metrocrest and is also a five-time national champion in U.S. National Handball. He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of North Texas and lives in Carrollton with his wife, Malena; children, Olivia and Hannah; and grandson, Kyle.

“I am very honored and humbled to be asked to work with an organization so close to my heart, as Metrocrest Social Services is a beacon for many in our community that need assistance – my own neighbors and friends,” noted Eubanks. “I look forward to working with the team as we envision new ways to partner with the community to grow our ability to help others in a way that is good business for everyone.”
