Boys basketball: Farmers can't duplicate girls upset, fall in first round to Colleyville Heritage

On Feb. 11, after winning its final game to qualify for the postseason, Lewisville's girls basketball team pulled off an upset in the bi-district round by knocking off District 6-5A Champion Colleyville Heritage.
Tuesday, Lewisville's boys had a chance to pull off the same feat but were unable to do so in a 45-37 loss.
"We just came up a little short," said Gary Collier, Lewisville head coach. "We had some opportunities in the second quarter that we didn't take advantage of and I think that really hurt us. They had some chances they finished and we didn't."
"After that, we really started playing better in the second half," he said. "We didn't lose any ground, but we were just too far behind."
Lewisville got to within six in the second half but never closer.
"We had our chances to get even closer," Collier said. "But we couldn't get stops when we needed to. They hit some big shots."
Jaden Wright paced the Farmers with 12 points, but no other Lewisville player scored in double figures. Anthony Davis, Myles Ward and Dionte Wilson chipped in six points apiece.
"Jaden played very well," Collier said. "But we needed a few more guys to step up with big games."
From Heritage, Colten Gober had 14 points, while Markey Brown contributed 10.
"They're a solid team," Collier said. "They're not really athletic or really tall, but they're sound in everything they do and know their roles."
The Farmers had trouble generating offense against Heritage's zone defense.
Still, it was a solid year in which a Lewisville team with just one starting senior returned to the postseason.
"We gained a lot of experience this year and I think that will be really beneficial to us next season," Collier said. "We'll have four starters back and we have a junior varsity kid who's pretty good. I think we'll be much better and I expect to do a better job of shooting and scoring."
