FC Dallas president steps down following felony charge

Published: Wednesday, February 20, 2013 2:12 PM CST
Doug Quinn has stepped down from his role as president and chief executive of FC Dallas, the Frisco-based professional soccer club, the team announced Wednesday.

Quinn had been on an indefinite leave of absence since November, when he was arrested in New York City on a felony charge of second-degree strangulation and a misdemeanor charge of assault with the intent to cause physical injury. Police allege Quinn beat his wife at The Alex Hotel after celebrating his 50th birthday.

In a statement released by FC Dallas on Quinn's behalf, the former executive said he plans on spending more time with his family.

"After much consideration, I have decided to resign from FC Dallas to spend more time with my two beautiful daughters," the statement reads. "I will be forever grateful to Clark and the Hunt family for giving me an opportunity to lead this great franchise, and I sincerely appreciate the hard work and dedication shown every day by the FC Dallas family."

On Saturday, Nov. 10, Elizabeth Quinn was treated by paramedics and later at New York Presbyterian Hospital after allegedly being beaten by her husband.

The Manhattan District Attorney's Office received a complaint filed against Doug Quinn that stated he "repeatedly punched [Elizabeth Quinn] in her face and body, causing her to suffer substantial pain, bruising and swelling to her face, arms, and legs and causing her eye to become swollen shut."

FC Dallas has announced Dan Hunt, vice president of Hunt Sports Group, will continue in his current role assuming Quinn's former responsibilities until a replacement is chosen. Hunt Sports Group owns FC Dallas.
