Stuck in the middle with blue: Lady Eagles struggle to find scoring chances in loss to Lady Wolves

The Allen girls soccer team (2-3-2 in district) had the first and last quality scoring chances Tuesday night versus Plano West with sophomore Morgan Cherry in the 2nd minute and freshman Marissa Kinsey in the 79th minute.

The middle 77 minutes, however, largely belonged to the Lady Wolves in a 2-0 win.

"I thought we came out flat in the first half," said Kevin Albury, Allen head coach. "West is a great team, but maybe we gave them a little too much respect."

Flash douse Sidekicks thunder, capture playoff series

Published: Thursday, February 28, 2013 10:27 PM CST
ALLEN -- Behind a third-quarter hat trick from Frank Mbemba, the Sidekicks rallied from an improbable 4-nil halftime deficit to even the match only to watch Rio Grande Valley close out the Sidekicks' season with a three-goal flurry of their own to end the third period. The Flash coasted from there to an 8-5 win Thursday in front of 3,274 at the Allen Event Center.

With the win, the Flash (14-4) advance to the PASL Ron Newman Cup semifinals on March 10-11 in San Diego.

Dallas won the Central Division with a 13-3 regular season record before losing two straight to the Flash. Rio Grande Valley won the playoff series opener Sunday in Hidalgo, 5-4 in overtime. It was the Sidekicks' first season back on the pitch following an eight-year hiatus.

"Their guys came more ready to play than us," Sidekicks' goalie Sagu said. "We're thinking like we are at home and we're just going to score goals like it's easy, but it's not like that.

"We just didn't do the job."
