Rivalry games are dangerous and North Mesquite nearly found that out the hard way on Friday.

But the Stallions did just enough, getting goals from Gustavo Rosas and Abraham Vasquez to post a 2-1 victory over winless Mesquite.

North Mesquite (5-2-1-0, 17 points) moves into sole possession of second place thanks to Longview's 2-1 victory over Tyler Lee.

The Skeeters, whose lone goal came courtesy of Alvaro Ollarzabal, drop to 0-7-1-0 and are virtually eliminated from playoff contention.

With Longview's win, Horn desperately needed a victory to keep pace in the playoff race and they got it with a 3-1 decision over Rockwall-Heath.

Eliseo Casillas, Carlos Olortegui and Alex Suominen each scored goals to lead the Jaguars to the win, as they remain with three points of the Lobos.

On Tuesday, Horn will play at Tyler Lee, which has suddenly dropped to third and is danger of putting themselves at risk of missing the playoffs with a late-season swoon.

Mesquite will try its hand at knocking off undefeated Rockwall while Longview faces off with Rockwall-Heath.
