12-5A GIRLS SOCCER: Horn doubles up Longview to maintain hold on first place

It was just a few days ago that Horn overtook Longview for sole possession of first place in 12-5A.
But the Jaguars had to turn around on Tuesday and face an angry Lobo team that was determined to get their spot back.
As they have done all season, Horn accepted the challenge and rose to it, doubling up Longview for a 4-2 victory.
As it has done in several matches, Horn jumped ahead early as Brooke Hill fed Haley Hicks for a goal and a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute.
The Jaguars got back on the scoreboard in the 20th minute, as Liz Campos set up a goal by Hill for their second score.
Horn needed more scoring in the second half and they got it early on when Hicks assisted on a score by Arianna Duckworth. The Jaguars got some insurance in the 65th minute when Hicks' second assist led to a score by Jordan Kondikoff.
North Mesquite had a good chance to add some needed points but picked up only one in a 4-3 shootout loss to Tyler Lee, which was winless prior to Tuesday.
The Stallions got a pair of regulation goals from Aileen Lara and another from Brenda Aguilar, but could not do enough in the penalty kicks.
North Mesquite (2-2-0-2, eight points) remained in sole possession of fourth place, but that is a precarious spot with a match against streaking Horn on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at E.H. Hanby Stadium. The Stallions also play Rockwall on Tuesday.
That tough road could open a door for Mesquite (2-3-0-0, six points), who has games against Rockwall-Heath on Friday at Berry Middle School and against Longview on Tuesday.
