Brueckner touts educational experience

Published: Monday, March 4, 2013 1:59 PM CST
Jared Brueckner, of The Colony, filed last week to run for Place 4 on the Lewisville ISD Board of Trustees. Brueckner has lived in the district for three years and has been active in the community during that time.

Brueckner is running against Kris Vaughn. The seat is occupied by Julie Foughty, who opted not to run for re-election.

Brueckner said working for the Texas nonprofit National Math + Science Initiative as the vice president of business development gives him a depth of experience in education.

Brueckner has worked extensively with schools and school districts in 43 states. He said working at every level in kindergarten through 12th grade education, from teachers to policy makers, and helping them to bring about meaningful change to improve school systems is what motivates him to seek placement with LISD. His experience in working with these school systems ranges from teacher recruitment and development to fundraising.

“My goal is to make LISD the best school district in the state.” Brueckner said. “I work closely with some of the very best school districts in the country. Bringing that experience and knowledge to the table to help [LISD Superintendent] Dr. [Stephen] Waddell and the district is why I’m asking the community to support me. When we get things right the kids win, and that is always the goal.”

In addition, Brueckner has worked for Pearson Education, which he said is the largest education company in the world. He said Pearson owns a variety of companies, including all of the test preparation companies that service Texas schools. His role was in market development, which involved working with teachers at all levels to build products to help them teach, working hand in hand with administrators at every level to help them implement education plans and building partnerships and negotiating education contracts of all kinds.

Brueckner said he is passionate about education and passionate about giving kids the best education possible.

He said some of the issues he sees in LISD include rezoning and equity and access for all students. He also said he would like to look into programs and build career and college readiness programs.

Brueckner and his family live in The Colony, where his son attends elementary school. Brueckner is a graduate of Weber State University in Utah.
