Changing it up: Two council seats will have new faces in May
By Kenny Green, kgreen@starlocalnews.com
The Rowlett City Council will have a couple of new faces in May after the city elections are completed. The deadline for filing to run for office was on March 1, so now the final ballot is set for the May 11 election.
This year there are four seats up for election - mayor, Place No. 2 representative, Place No. 4 representative and Place No. 6 representative.
One of the most highly contested races is for the currently vacant Place No. 2 seat. The seat was vacated when Donna Davis resigned upon moving out of the city. The race features three competitors - Tammy Dana-Bashian, Pamela Bell and Pauline Dedrick. Dana-Bashian is a 10-year resident of the city of Rowlett and lists her occupation as a certified public accountant. Dedrick is a 12-year resident of the city and is retired. Bell is a 17-year resident of the city and is a realtor.
The Place No. 6 race has incumbent Michael Gallops facing off against John Spor. Gallops currently works in marketing and is a seven-year resident of the city. Spor is a business owner who has lived in Rowlett for 12 years.
The race for the Place No. 4 seat features a returning face as Arlan "Brownie" Sherrill is seeking the position for a second time. He will face off Debby Bobbitt. Sherrill is 21-year resident of Rowlett and is currently employed as a senior programmer. Bobbitt is a 16-year resident of Rowlett and is retired but works as a chaplain. Incumbent Ron Miller did not file to seek an additional term.
