Plano City Council notes

Published: Sunday, March 10, 2013 8:40 PM CDT
Business survey -- A survey of 401 businesses in Plano was conducted last year and the results were shared with the City Council Wednesday night.

The results show that city services are meeting expectations for 95 percent of business owners, including 48 percent who said the level of service was higher than expected. Seventy-eight percent of respondents were satisfied with each of the 14 city departments listed on the survey. Of the departments, the police (95 percent), emergency medical services (95 percent) and fire inspections (91 percent) received the highest marks. City Hall finished fifth, with 89 percent of respondents being satisfied.

Drainage rates -- The drainage rates paid by Plano residents will be increasing slightly next month, the City Council was informed at its Wednesday meeting. The increase will be 79 cents per month for 1,500-square-foot houses, up to $1.49 for houses totaling 4,500 square feet. Non-residential fees are also increasing, with the rate paid by the average-sized non-residential property increasing $37.88 per month. The increase is required to meet a $300,000 revenue shortfall encountered by the city. If the rates were not increased on April 1, the city would have to use its fund balance to cover the shortage.

Juvenile curfew -- The teen curfew, which applies to teens aged 16 and under, was extended for three years at Wednesday's City Council meeting. Plano Police Chief Greg Rushin said the curfew has reduced crime in the city and urged the council to extend it.

The curfew is in effect from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Sunday through Thursday, and 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. There is no curfew on Friday.
