23-4A BOYS SOCCER: Wranglers, Pirates remain atop district standings

West Mesquite and Poteet barely broke a sweat on Tuesday as they each cruised to victories in 23-4A play.
The Wranglers (7-0-0-0, 21 points) remained perfect in district play with a 5-1 victory over winless Crandall.
Isai Velasquez tallied a hat trick and Emmanuel Hernandez and Kevin Iraheta added scores.
Charles Ojeda had a hat trick, Jesus Armendariz scored twice and Carlos Cardenas, Derric Davis, Sammy Duarte and Mike Khalil added goals for the Pirates, who remained tied for first place with West Mesquite.
Both teams will play on Saturday afternoon rather than Friday night later this week, with West Mesquite hosting Terrell at 1:45 p.m. at Mesquite Memorial Stadium and Poteet taking on Kaufman at 1:45 p.m. at E.H. Hanby Stadium.
If both teams win, the Wranglers can regain sole possession of the 23-4A top spot on Tuesday, as they play North Forney while the Pirates have a district bye.

FRIDAY
Poteet started the second half of 23-4A play just the way it wanted to on Friday with a 7-0 shutout of Terrell.
The Pirates (6-1-0-0) tie West Mesquite for first place in district with 18 points, although the idle Wranglers have played one fewer game.
Poteet overwhelmed the Tigers, who themselves are in the middle of a three-way battle for a playoff spot.
Charles Ojeda scored twice and Jesus Armendariz, Travis Avant, Carlos Cardenas, Sammy Duarte and Mike Khalil added goals.
The Pirates will play on the road at North Forney on Tuesday, while West Mesquite will return to action against winless Crandall.
