C.A.R.E. seeks monetary, goods donations for auction fundraiser

The Celina Association for Renaissance Excellence is seeking donations from the community and local businesses for its largest fundraiser of the year, the C.A.R.E. Ladies' Brunch and Auction.


The 10th annual brunch and auction will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 23, at the Celina High School, 3455 North Preston Rd.

C.A.R.E., an organization that focuses on academic excellence in Celina ISD, uses the proceeds from the brunch and auction fundraiser to benefit each campus through its programs. The organization is seeking monetary contributions or donations of goods and services, which can be dropped off at the high school. Donations are due by March 8.

Monetary donations can be mailed to C.A.R.E. P.O. Box 116, Celina, TX 75009 or made via PayPal at celinacares.org.

"We'll accept any kind of new items," said Kristy Campbell, C.A.R.E. publicity spokesperson. "It's also a way for some of the companies to get their company in front of 200 ladies."

Four sections of items in the auction are art, garden, sports and ladies' accessories. Some of the goods and services donated include gift certificates to local businesses, sports tickets, furniture, decorative items, CHS artwork, trips and more.

"This year [we offer] a New Orleans trip and a California wine country trip," Campbell said.

The first brunch and auction, held in 2004, raised $7,000. Last year, the event raised over $30,000.

"We always try to exceed what we did the year before," Campbell said.

The organization is also searching for corporate sponsors. Those who sponsor $500 and up will have their company logo highlighted in the program handed out at the brunch.

"It's really grown over the years," Campbell said. "It started as a relatively small event where ladies decorated their own tables. It's grown into an event with 200 ladies where we provide all the decorations and the brunch."

Tickets for the brunch and auction are $20, and are typically sold by tables of eight; however, individual tables are sold as well for those who do not have eight people. Tickets have gone on sale this week and will available until the event is sold out. Seating is limited so it is recommended to purchase tickets early.

In the past, funds raised by C.A.R.E. have supported Tumble Books, an online collection of animated, talking picture books, for the elementary school; Bobcat Bucks incentives at the intermediate school; iPads and iPods for the Read Naturally program at the middle school, and TI Calculators for the math department at the high school.

Scholarships for graduating seniors are also awarded ever year.

"Every campus benefits from C.A.R.E.," Campbell said.
