Council election canceled
By Chris Roark, croark@starlocalnews.com
The filing deadline for municipal and school board elections has passed, and all is quiet for the Southlake City Council.
Following the 5 p.m. Friday deadline, only three candidates – one for each race – had filed. With no contested races, the election will be canceled.
That means Brandon Bledsoe, who serves on Place 3, will remain on the council in the same seat.
Bledsoe was elected in 2009 to the council and has served on various boards and commissions, including the planning and zoning commission, the Southlake 2030 Committee and the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) No. 1.
Randy Williamson will be the new council member for Place 4. He didn’t draw a challenger, and incumbent Al Zito chose not to run for re-election. Williamson has served in various volunteer roles, including the city’s planning and zoning commission, the parks and recreation board and the Southlake 2030 Plan Committee.
Laura Hill will take over for Place 5. She filed for the seat last month after incumbent Jeff Wang announced he would not seek re-election.
Hill had previously served on the council but left in 2011 because of term limits. Since then, she has worked with various organizations, including Students and Parents Against Risks to Kids (SPARK), an organization she began that deals with issues children face growing up.
While there will not be an election for Southlake City Council, there will be one for Carroll ISD Board of Trustees:
Place 6
Sam Torolopoulos
Matt Kormann
Place 7
Chris Archer
James Palazzo
*Bob Kemins withdrew from the race
