11-5A BASEBALL: Pitching rules for Sachse, Rowlett
By DEVIN HASSON, dhasson@starlocalnews.com
Sachse and Rowlett each rode strong pitching performances to victories on Tuesday in 11-5A play.
The Mustangs remained undefeated in district, improving to 4-0 with a 6-0 blanking of Garland.
Josh Lewis struck out eight in six innings of work to pick up the victory on the mound.
Rowlett got a standout pitching effort from Luke Hamblin in a 2-1 victory over South Garland. The Eagles were not able to do much on offense against Josh Whitlock, but Dalton Atnip had a double and two runs proved to be enough as they improved to 2-1 in 11-5A.
Rowlett has a big game on Friday when it plays at Naaman Forest, who is undefeated in district play at 3-0. The Eagles will then host North Garland on Tuesday.
Sachse has a bye on Friday and will try to continue its winning ways on Tuesday with a home game against winless South Garland.

THURSDAY: Sachse outlasts Rowlett in extra innings
Sachse and Rowlett entered Thursday's contest on opposite ends of the spectrum as far as their records were concerned.
But as is normally the case when these two rivals meet, that did not matter.
The Mustangs and Eagles battled deep into the afternoon, but in the bottom of the 10th inning, Don Malone provided the game-winning base hit as Sachse pulled out a 3-2 victory.
The game was a pitcher's duel early on between Sachse's Kyle Weatherly and Rowlett's Sean Williams.
The Eagles finally broke the scoreless tie with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Mustangs refused to go away, though, scratching across single runs in both the sixth and seventh to send the contest to extra innings.
Both teams had their chances against the bullpens, but Malone stranded a Rowlett runner in the top of the 10th and then ended the game with his single in the bottom of the frame.
The other 11-5A games also featured a pair of standout pitching performances, as Lakeview's Tanner McGill threw a shutout in a 9-0 win over South Garland and Naaman Forest's Matt Herrick led the way in a 6-0 blanking of North Garland.
